Camera Club

SPARKS FUNDING - PRIMARY SCHOOL

We had the pleasure of working with a primary school to organize camera club sessions that were incredibly popular among the pupils, resulting in a waiting list for participation. These sessions were designed as a six- week program, where we used photography as a powerful tool to explore our unique perspectives and reflect on the world around us.

During the camera club sessions, we focused on creating portraits and capturing images of each other in a respectful manner. The aim was to encourage self- expression and foster a deeper understanding of one another through the art of photography.

To celebrate the hard work and creativity of the participants, we organized an exhibition during the final session. This exhibition showcased all the photographs produced throughout the camera club to parents, teachers, and other pupils within the school. It was a wonderful opportunity for the young photographers to share their vision and talent with the wider community.

The camera club sessions not only provided an avenue for artistic exploration but also helped develop important skills such as observation, communication, and self-confidence. We were thrilled to witness the enthusiasm and engagement of the primary school pupils, and we look forward to continuing to inspire and empower young photographers in the future.

Photography & Mindfulness Workshop

Sparks Funding - Keyham Green Places

During a six-week period, we organised a mindfulness and photography workshop at Keyham Green Places. The workshop provided a relaxed and supportive environment where the main focus was on improving wellbeing and fostering social connections through photography and discussions.

Throughout the workshop, we explored different artistic approaches and encouraged participants to re-examine their own perspectives. By doing so, we aimed to enhance their ability to effectively convey emotions and feelings through their photographic work.

Given the ongoing uncertain circumstances we are facing, many individuals are finding it challenging to maintain their mental well-being and emotional resilience. Feelings of stress, worry, anxiety, fear, and burnout have become common experiences. This workshop aimed to address these challenges by promoting a slower pace, encouraging participants to truly observe and consciously see what is in front of them in any given moment.

The workshop offered practical, accessible, and enjoyable mindful photography activities that, when practiced regularly, can have a positive impact on one's well-being. All skill levels were welcome, and participants were encouraged to use smartphones as their cameras, making it accessible to everyone.

Overall, the mindfulness and photography workshop provided a space for individuals to engage in self-care, connect with others, and explore the therapeutic benefits of photography while navigating the uncertainties of our current times.

These workshops offer a transformative experience for individuals, allowing them to explore new methods and techniques while nurturing their artistic growth. By combining traditional processes with the use of sketchbooks, participants gain a deeper understanding of photography as an art form and develop their own unique style.

To further enrich their artistic practice, participants are provided with sketchbooks to reflect upon their work. Through a series of tasks and creative exercises, they are encouraged to approach photography in a fresh and innovative way, enabling them to create authentic and meaningful photographs.

PE(A)RSPECTIVES

Our signature workshops are specifically designed for creative individuals and photographers seeking to expand their knowledge of photography techniques and enhance their artistic practice. These workshops provide a unique opportunity to explore both traditional photographic processes and the utilization of sketchbooks as a valuable tool in their creative journey.

During these workshops, we introduce participants to the world of analogue cameras, encouraging them to think outside the box by capturing photographs using unconventional subjects such as a rubbish bin. We then guide them through the process of developing these images in a darkroom, allowing them to experience the magic of creating photograms.

/SKETCHBOOK/ AS A TOOL IN CREATIVE PRACTICE

Virtual Workshops

We conducted a series of virtual workshops focused on sketchbooks for creative practice, which spanned over a period of six weeks. These interactive sessions were designed to introduce creative individuals to the world of sketchbooks and provide them with new methods of working with this creative tool.

One of the key aspects of these workshops was the interactive nature of the sessions. Participants actively engaged in the activities and discussions, creating a supportive community where they could share reflections and exchange ideas for their own creative and professional practices. This collaborative environment fostered a sense of camaraderie and provided valuable insights and inspiration for all involved. By delivering these workshops online, we were able to reach a wider audience and provide access to creative learning opportunities from the comfort of their own homes. The virtual format allowed for flexibility and convenience, enabling participants to engage in the workshops at their own pace while still benefiting from the guidance and expertise of the facilitators. Overall, these virtual workshops on sketchbooks provided a valuable introduction to this creative tool, fostering a supportive community and inspiring participants to explore new avenues in their creative and professional journeys.

Self-funded initiative

The Family Photo Festival, a self-funded initiative, created a vibrant six-day space for community engagement through a variety of workshops focused on photography and creativity. Central to the festival was our innovative drive-through family portrait service, allowing families to simply walk in, have their portraits captured, and swiftly continue with their day. This experience illuminated the profound value of family portraits, showcasing how these moments of connection can be effortlessly integrated into everyday life. Through this initiative, we not only celebrated the art of photography but also reinforced its role in preserving cherished memories for generations to come.
